In memory: Pete Postlethwaite (1946-2011)

I only just heard that the Lancashire-born actor Pete Postlethwaite died on the 2nd January, due to testicular cancer.

Every time we do one of these obituaries there's a sad feeling that someone really great has gone from the world. Postlethwaite was a very good actor - one of those who seemed to be content with bit parts in international movies like The Usual Suspects, Alien 3, Jurassic Park 2 and Inception (and he was great in Romeo + Juliet) because he had already starred in Brassed Off. And once you've starred in Brassed Off, that's pretty much it. You've got acting covered.

Here's a clip of the man in action.

  1. He was brilliant in Sharpe too.

    Rest in Peace.

  2. This is very sad. I remember he used to pop up in a ton of movies I used to watch when I was little, and obsession with hunting that t-rex in The Lost World actually freaked me out.

Amazing actor. I'm gonna go rent The Town just to see how his last role played out.

  3. Great of you guys to put up an obituary to the Actor I only remember him in Jurassic Park obsessing about the T-Rex and found it quite funny. It is indeed sad to see quite a few Actors succumbing to Cancer, you'd think that Actors have all the health facilities to get such things detected early enough. Hope he has gone on to a better place.
